Teeth Whitening
Over time, our teeth can discolor and develop a yellowish tint especially as our enamel wears down. The wearing down of enamel allows the dentin, a yellow colored substance that makes up the core of our teeth, to show through. The visible dentin is what actually gives our teeth the yellowish tint. In order to conceal this effect, cosmetic dentistry offers patients teeth whitening in order to help restore teeth to their shiny white color. Although there are various methods of teeth whitening available, most procedures are possible with the use of bleach.
Teeth whitening methods
There are two popular teeth whitening methods that are available from your cosmetic dentistry in Austin TX. The first is an in-office teeth whitening procedure that produces a significant color change to your teeth in a short amount of time. You’ll typically need to donate about an hour of your time for these appointments. Dr. Sharma will begin by applying a high-concentration peroxide gel on the teeth after they have been protected with a special shield.
Another method involves the use of take-home whitening kits. These whitening kits can be purchased through your doctor. Since the kits are lower in potency compared to the in-office bleaching, they can be applied for longer periods of time. Usually, the accompanying trays are worn for a couple of hours a day or overnight during the course of a few days or weeks depending on the product.
Since every patient’s tooth shade needs to be assessed on an individual basis, it is always best to consult Dr. Sharma before beginning with a treatment plan. Together, we’ll be able to find the best whitening option for you.
